Plausible Certainty __ 2002
Flour and acrylic. 7 x 108 inch diameter

"Plausible Certainty" is composed of eleven hexagonal forms placed on the ground in a circular formation. Each hexagon has a 1-inch thick piece of acrylic at the base with compressed flour on top of it. Embossed on the surface of each form is a single word that prompts the viewer to move around the form to understand the connection to the next word.
Arrangement and position in the piece are designed to suggest a logical pattern. Through the arrangement of the words the viewer is compelled to unify the relationship to each word and then to oneself. Another pattern contained within the piece is implied by the angle and position of the text. It’s a mental leap, connecting similar and dissimilar patterns to arrive at a new understanding.
