Land Management __ 1998
Glass ariel photographic plates. 3 x 252 x 1.5 inches
. .
The piece, Land Management, is an arrangement of three-dimensional compositions made from glass aerial photographic positives of random location on earth. The details within the images of the compositions describe a landscape that has been manipulated and cultivated over time. The compositions together are designed to form a new pattern or order. There is an odd sense of beauty that comes from the destruction of a natural form. It is something as creatures of conscience that can be disturbing because each is equally beautiful in its own right. Land Management is design to question the relationship of humans and nature and our natural need to control it. This act of control has both positive and negative connotations based on the individual’s experiences. The arrangement is based on the space containing the work.
