Creation and destruction are interdependent elements of a whole. Each exists for the sake of the other and gives definition to each other. This inseparable relationship is at the core of our human existence.

"Closed Loop" is a simple experiment with a personal conclusion. In this experiment, a slate wheel slowly turns beneath three scribes set at different heights. As the outer scribe begins cutting a path into the surface of the wheel it gradually sinks deeper into it. After an uncertain period of time the scribe will cut deep enough to allow the second scribe to begin cutting its own path. Eventually, the outer scribe will cut completely through the slate, separating the outer ring from the whole. The process continues with the second and third scribes.

The creative act begins with a destructive act. It is a natural act whereby material is consumed and reorganized to produce a work of art. Even a thought requires the consumption of food to make the human engine work.
