This piece came about when I found a discarded tree part by the side of the road. After taking it back to my studio, I began to strip off the bark and conform it into rings that mimicked the log's outer form. After the log had been completely cleaned, it began to take on the presence of a freshly skinned carcass. Seeing it that way, I began to think about how human beings rank life or measure the importance of other life forms. As the form becomes closer to our likeness the degree or severity of the taking of a life becomes greater. Survival and needs become the tools of our justification.
"2 Degrees (Of Justification)" consists of a large wood timber, which forms the table top. The leg sections of the table were designed at different lengths in order to make the table slightly off level. On top of this wood table are placed the altered remnants of a tree.
